    Examples of Violence

    • Physical assault or threat
    • Stalking or continuous harassment of another causing terror, fear, worry or intimidation
    • Actions aimed at disrupting or sabotaging daily operations

    Types of Threats

    • Written threats
    • Verbal threats
    • Electronic threats
    • Stalking
    • Harassment

    If You are a Victim or Witness to a Life-Threatening Act

    Call 911 immediately and advise the dispatcher of the following:

    • Your name, locations and type of violence
    • Extent of injuries, if any
    • Weapon involved
    • locations and description of perpetrator, if known
    • Status of threat

    If No Injuries Occurred or There is Imminent Danger

    • Advise Campus Safety immediately.
    • Try to move to a safe area and notify the Tampa Police Department.
    • If you need a victim’s advocate, call (813) 257-3900 for assistance.

    If Confronted by a Threatening Person

    • Leave the area/get out of harm’s way.
    • Call 911 immediately.

    If unable to leave the area:

    • Try to stay at a safe distance.
    • Try to calm the threatening individual.
    • Try to get someone’s attention so they can call 911.
    • Listen to the individual and let them do most of the talking.
    • Be respectful and empowering.
    • Point out choices.

    Do not:

    • Belittle, criticize, agitate or argue with the person.
    • Challenge the individual verbally or physically.
    • Make sudden movements.
    • Make false statements or promises.

    Contacting Authorities

    • Dial 911.
    • Be aware that the 911 system will likely be overwhelmed. Program your cell phones with campus emergency numbers.
    • Call Campus Safety at (813) 257-7777 from a cell or x7777 from a campus phones.
    • Report:
    • Your specific locations – building name and office/room number
    • Number of people at your specific locations
    • Injuries – number injured and types of injuries
    • Assailant(s) – locations, number, identity if known, race/gender, clothing description, physical features, type of weapons (long gun or hand gun), backpack, separate explosions from gunfire, etc.
